There is research to support the statements said on the main page, as well as research to support other statements you may have heard about doulas.  As with all birth-related topics, I encourage you to explore the research yourself and come to your own conclusion.

Evidence Based Birth is a website that has an enormous amount of research on birth. I highly recommend looking into it. 

Another website that has a beautiful collection of research and information is Mama Glow. They have webinars and many articles related to every aspect of birth.
